A correctly fitted harness is essential every time your child travels. While each InfaSecure car seat has product-specific instructions, this guide covers the key checks to make before you drive.

Always follow the instruction manual supplied with your particular InfaSecure car seat. If anything in this guide differs from your manual, the manual takes priority.

1. Position your child correctly

Place your child in the seat with their bottom positioned right back into the seat and their back resting naturally against the backrest.

Before fitting the harness, remove bulky jackets, puffer suits or thick layers. These can create extra space between your child and the harness, making it difficult to achieve a firm fit.

2. Check the harness height

The harness must be set at the correct height for your child.

Check the shoulder-height markers and instructions in your specific InfaSecure car seat manual before adjusting the harness. These requirements can differ between models and may change depending on whether the seat is being used rearward-facing or forward-facing.

Do not rely on a general rule for harness-slot height — always use the instructions and markers provided on your child’s restraint.

3. Ensure the harness straps are flat and untwisted

Bring both harness straps over your child’s shoulders and check that they:

• Lie flat against your child’s body
• Are not twisted, folded or caught
• Sit comfortably over both shoulders
• Are not sitting away from the body

The harness should be comfortable but firm, with no slack. Check the adjuster strap and tighten the harness as required.

4. Position the harness pads correctly

If your InfaSecure car seat includes harness pads, ensure they are fitted and positioned exactly as shown in that product’s instruction manual.

As a general check, the pads should sit evenly on the harness straps and should not interfere with the harness buckle, harness adjustment or your child’s comfort.

Do not add aftermarket harness pads, inserts or accessories unless they have been supplied or approved for use with your specific InfaSecure car seat.

5. Check the crotch buckle

The crotch buckle should be secured and sit comfortably between your child’s legs.

If your InfaSecure car seat has more than one crotch-buckle position, only use the position specified for your child in that product’s instruction manual. Never adjust or change the buckle position without first checking the instructions for your model.

6. Complete your final safety check

Before every trip, check that:

• Your child is sitting right back in the seat
• The harness height is set in line with the seat’s markers and instruction manual
• Harness straps are flat, straight and untwisted
• The harness is comfortable but firm, with no slack
• Harness pads, if fitted, are positioned according to the instruction manual
• The buckle is fully secured
• There are no bulky layers underneath the harness
